Throwback Thursday, Ice Cube – Today Was A Good Day

Throwback Thursday is upon us again, a great time of week, an excuse to go digging through all of your old favourites and picking some of the best to share with all you peeps.

So one of my choices for today is an absolute certified classic, that really was an introduction and gateway into the massive world of hip-hop for me. The track from 1993’s The Predator is instantly recognisable, in no small part down to the heavy use and sampling of The Isley Brothers tune “Footsteps in the Dark”. Some drums, enhanced bass and vocals create an epically laid back tune ready to send you into a nostalgic and reminiscent mood, especially with a bunch of mates around you! Even if this is the first time you listen to the tune it just has that special ability to do that no matter what.

It is actually a bit of a change for Ice Cube around the time it was released that I think surprised a few people, with people only associating Ice Cube with straight up gangsta rap and obviously the NWA. He was in the prime of his career, with everything he could want, but most of his music reflected the tough times for people in that time and the oppression felt. So this was definitely a change up a time to talk about the good days he was having of which there must have been a shitload.

Get reacquainted now and make sure today is a good by listening to this tune, I hope you don’t even have to use your AK!!
