Scottish Alternative Music Awards nominees announced

Lewis Capaldi, The Van T’s and Medicine Men feature among the nominees

THE Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) is back for its eighth year equipped with a diverse and talented list of nominees across seven categories.

Artists up for gongs include last year’s live performers The Van T’s, Edinburgh electro outfit Stillhound and grime MC Shogun.

Other standouts on the shortlist include singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, Medicine Men (above) and Glasgow grunge rockers Codist.

The event takes place at The Garage, Glasgow on October 12 and will be hosted by Jim Gellatly.

Continuing to shine a light on emerging and innovative talent on the Scottish music scene, the SAMAs have spent the year showcasing artists at events including Xpo North, with The Ninth Wave, and Rachel Sermanni at Paisley’s Sma’ Shot festival.

Singer-songwriter and Best Acoustic nominee Lewis Capaldi has had a breakthrough year.

SAMAs founder, Richy Muirhead, has also unveiled that the event will be hosted by a selection of special guests including BBC Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Laura Boyd of STV.

Live performances this year will come courtesy of Glasgow disco punk act WHITE, riff kings Holy Mountain and electro trio BooHooHoo.

Muirhead said: “The twenty eight shortlisted acts represent the diversity and high quality of music in Scotland right now.

“I feel there is something on the list for everyone from grime to electro, rock and more.

“The SAMAs are designed to allow the audience to discover new music, and this list does exactly that.

“Members of the music industry formed the shortlist, now the public can have their say in a short vote in October – the team and I are excited for the ceremony in three weeks!”
