Indie giants Frightened Rabbit to play intimate show at The Bungalow this weekend for Independent Venue Week.
THE Selkirk quintet, made up of brothers Scott and Grant Hutchison, Billy Kennedy, Andy Monaghan and Simon Liddell, are set to perform at the small Shuttle Street bar for the festival on Sunday 29 January.
The show sold out within a few hours of being announced, with The Bungalow’s owner Alan Corrigan delighted by the response of Paisley buddies expecting plenty of great tracks from the band’s five album back catalogue.
Alan said: “Frightened Rabbit are a huge band and we can’t thank them enough for coming out to support The Bungalow during Independent Venue Week. It feels incredible and we are very excited for this show.
“Sold-out shows like this keep the town alive and offer music lovers something different on a weekly basis. Big name artists coming to play in Paisley brings more people to the town and benefits the businesses around us at the same time”
Independent Venue Week (IVW) is a seven day UK-wide festival that aims to promote grassroots venues across the country that give unsigned bands their first big break.
Experienced touring bands and artists like Frightened Rabbit are encouraged to get involved to help draw local people out to support their community bars, clubs and concert halls.
Independent Venue Week founder, Sybil Bell, said: “The support means grassroots venues are benefitting from brilliant artists, promoters and media who are helping to start the year off with some amazing shows.
“Last year nearly 40,000 people went to gigs during IVW, a huge boost to venues and a great way for people to kick the January blues into touch.”
With Paisley set to send off its bid to become UK City of Culture for 2021 this April, project director at Paisley 2021 Jean Cameron believes that the town’s vibrant music scene will have a big role to play in landing the title.
Jean said: “It’s phenomenal to see a band as influential as Frightened Rabbit coming to Paisley and I am sure those lucky enough to have snapped up a ticket will have a great night.
“Independent Venue Week is a celebration of the grassroots musical scene across the country, we are fortunate here in Paisley to have a dedicated live music venue in The Bungalow and this is a great way to put them in the spotlight.”
The legendary town centre venue once hosted The Buzzcocks and will go back to its roots tonight as The Zips headline a punk showcase for Independent Music Week.
Frightened Rabbit will play The Bungalow, Paisley this Sunday 29th January for Independent Music Week.
Tickets are sold-out.
