Cheap Thrills. No Frills.

AT first I couldn’t tell if this was a joke or not. The lips, the eyebrows and the (now what I think are awesome) towel things on top of their heads. But when Vanessa and Arna Rogers, The No Frills Twins, opened their mouths to sing I certainly wasn’t having the last laugh.

Hailing from Australia, the pair have attracted much attention on YouTube owing to their age, eccentric sense of style and unusual vocals. More specifically their cover of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ has seriously got me obsessed with these unconventional twins.

Strong voices and a wide vocal range, they are able to achieve a balance between their own originality as artists and the original rendition.  Through the process of transforming commercial songs they are able to form their own compositions and unique musical style. I absolutely adore it.

Their covers of commercial mainstream pop are emphasized by their image, a contrasting mixture of Gothic and hippy attire. Loud clashing outfits contribute to the overall viewing experience with hair knots atop their heads making watching them even more memorable.

The twins also compose their own songs but let’s not talk about that right now.

This up and coming duo are definitely worth a watch, but they’re not for the faint hearted. Their electric mix of sphered music covers a wide range of musical genres antagonising the mainstream grain.

Their wide range of musical composition appeals to a multitude of individuals, due to the versatility of their art form, making them a youthful and refreshing musical act to follow.
