IN an age where new singer/songwriters pop up seemingly endlessly, with everybody desperate to become the next Sam Smith, Lana Del Ray or Lorde, it is becoming harder and harder to stand out from the crowd. But for me 21 year old Leeds based singer/songwriter, Harriet Little, has no such trouble.
While listening to Harriet Little’s excellent new single ‘America’ one thing immediately caught my ear, her undeniably beautiful voice. Harriet’s vocals are haunting and piercing yet smooth and soothing, often paired with nothing but a piano, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. New single ‘America’ is a prime example of this, Harriet and her piano and it’s stunning, it’s been stuck in my head for days now. Harriet states James Blake, Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley as key inspirations behind her music and it’s easy to see why, poignant and powerful lyrics while having a withdrawn sound to her music it really is quite extraordinary.
However, this isn’t to say Harriet Little is a one trick pony, as evidenced by her delightful cover of Chris Malinchak’s summer house banger ‘So Good To Me’. Harriet slows the tempo and switches the song into more of a ballad. Despite only having a few songs available at the moment on her SoundCloud account, there is definitely enough there to be encouraged about and with an as yet untitled EP in the works the future looks very bright for this young singer.
Give Harriet Little a listen and let us know what you think.
