#SundaySoundtrack #18

Your #SundaySoundtrack has returned for its 18th edition to help you quell those hangover blues. As always we aim to deliver a cracking list of tunes that we’ve been enjoying this week to help lift those hangover blues and make you forget that Monday is just around the corner.

Danny Brown – ‘Smokin & Drinkin’

This has definitely been the hardest week to pick just one song for our #SundaySoundtrack,  so fuck it, I’m choosing two absolutely massive tunes. The first of which has to be Danny Brown ‘Smokin & Drinkin’ from the instant classic of an album Old from 2013. Danny Brown in his element, spitting bars that are hard as nails over some trappy/grimey production. Quite simply the ultimate hip hop party tune and the perfect tune to keep last night going.

Spooky Black – ‘Without You’

Get some of that #BLACKSILK all up in you, definitely one of the most chilled songs I’ve heard for a long time. Breezy James Blake-esque production, silky smooth sexual vocals, this tune is absolutely perfect for a hazy and lazy Sunday morning. To top it all off Spooky Black is on a Young Lean level of WTFness, you’ll see what I mean from the video. A full report on Spooky Black will be here shortly so for the moment groove away to ‘Without You’.

Nas – ‘NY State Of Mind’

Nas is one of the best examples alive today of the 90’s golden era of hip hop. Illmatic was a groundbreaking album that is still considered one of the most influential hip hop albums of all time. ‘NY State Of Mind’ encompasses perfectly what the album represents, in one track. With it’s gritty sample based beat holding it together with Nas’ signature liquid flow running throughout. Nothing like a bit of hip-hop on the weekend, who better today than Nas?

On Cue  – ‘Home ft Chris Webby’
Released after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012 it shows Webby’s serious side. Pushing On Cue into the spot light, it’s moving as well as portraying a positive message. Here’s an easy one to have on in the background on this extremely “Guh” of Sundays.
Calum Woodger
Stereo-Filth – ‘She’s Mine’
One of our first ever Undiscovered acts, the bluesy Dundee trio are back with new track ‘She’s Mine’. With a groovy bassline, rasping vocals from Sean McGouldrick and skatty, jazzy drumming from Bob Anderson. This track is smooth, elegant, sophisticated but best of all, it has soul! Get jamming to it this Sunday.
Barney Greenish
Blue Swede – ‘Hooked On A Feeling’
An upbeat rock love anthem from the Swedish band that has been enjoying a big resurgence since featuring prominently in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The phenomenal soundtrack has kept it close on my music radar ever since.
Sam Karam
Green Velvet & Patrick Topping – ‘Voicemail’
The legend that is Green Velvet, also known as Cajmere, chose to collaborate with up and coming English producer Patrick Topping on this successful dance track. Patrick’s signature bassline surprisingly works well with the raw feeling of the song and the vocals alluding to people asking to be on the guestlist.
Chris Costello
Mousse T. Vs The Dandy Warhols – ‘Horny As A Dandy’
This mash up of Mousse T’s ‘Horny as a Dandy’ and the Dandy Warhols ‘Bohemian Like You’ was first released in 2006. Charting at just number 17 in the UK singles chart this song gets my number top spot for Valentines weekend.
This brings another #SundaySoundtrack to a close, let us know in the comment section below what would make yours!
