Ayrshire-born Colin Hunter was another discovery I made while working on STV Glasgow. Hunter has been playing music half his life and with a début album – Do Re Me (2011) – already under his belt he’s been busy making sure 2015 is going to be a big year for him.
With single ‘Standfast’ due out in February and an EP set for the summer, now would be a good time to really get into Colin Hunter.
On the show the Kilwinning singer-songwriter played three tunes – the aforementioned ‘Standfast’, ‘Bad Thoughts’ and ‘I Never Found Out How You Died’ – all three of which impressed those in the studio and people watching at home alike.
Hunter’s forthcoming single ‘Standfast’ is a lovely gentle, emotive track full of beautiful high pitched vocals from Hunter. Melodic guitar plucks are replaced by punchy flicks at the perfectly simple chorus. Reminiscent of other Scottish folky, rock outfits like Admiral Fallow and Frightened Rabbit, Hunter has something very Sam McTrusty-esque about his singing style. Letting his west-coast accent really come to the fore lends itself perfectly to his music. The video is brilliant also:
You can catch Colin’s performance of ‘Standfast’ on The Riverside Show RIGHT HERE! A stellar end to 2014 for Hunter, let’s hope 2015 brings even more success for this talented, humble singer-songwriter!
