From School To L.A. Soundtrack: Natalie Clark

As composed as she was humble, Natalie Clark stood unnerved outside of STV Glasgow’s Riverside Show studios serenading the walls with a warm-up better than most rehearsed performances – even jet-lagged. It’s hard to believe that this was Clark’s first ever television appearance considering how much she had accomplished in what has been a whirlwind of a year for the singer-songwriter!

With mum Kathy (the proudest fan she’ll ever have), Clark detailed her year spending the last nine months in the heart of Los Angeles and left me flat-footed when she revealed she had quit school-teaching earlier this year. And boy should we be glad she went for it. Tracks ‘Weakness’ and ‘Bit By Bit’ are deeply-written personal favourites of mine, and hearing them live was (without worrying about sounding corny) quite special.

Clark opened for The Wailers – Bob Marley’s The Wailers. Aston “Family Man” Barrett, Dwayne “Danglin'” Anglin… all of them. She’s also gained fans in indie-pop stars Fun and Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito, who is far-removed from the mischievous Gustavo Fring character he portrayed.

She isn’t stopping with one trip to Los Angeles though. Without going into too much detail, the beautiful Scot could be appearing with her guitar on one of America TV’s top talent competitions early next year! There’s nowhere better suited for Clark’s stunning rock voice.

It is a genuine pleasure to hear this girl sing and The Music Brewery wish Natalie the best of luck for 2015.
