At this time of the year we all like to indulge in some classic Christmas tunes. The old favourites get brought out time and time again: The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl – ‘Fairytale of New York’, Mariah Carey – ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, Wizzard – ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas‘, the list goes on! So how about The Music Brewery offers you some new ‘Undiscovered‘ Christmas jams that will soon be favourites!
We have two Christmas gems from Glasgow that would make just the most perfect ‘Undiscovered‘ Christmas stocking fillers!
Anton & The Colts – ‘Miniature Battles (It’s Christmas Time, Again)’
Blues-rock four piece Anton & The Colts have released a festive treat for their fans ‘Miniature Battles (It’s Christmas Time, Again)’. In a busy year for the band where original members Anton and Roscoe recruited two more bandmates, this track rounds of the year nicely for a band who have featured on The Riverside Show on STV Glasgow. Featuring just Anton on guitar, the stripped back sound, gentle foot taps and the dramatic smoky bluegrass vocals lend themselves perfectly to a moodier festive feeling. More like The Pogues than Wizzard this track is a true ‘Undiscovered’ gem.
Carol Laula – ‘Christmas Is Coming Home To Glasgow’
Now, with a quick change of pace, it’s time to pick things up with a classic sounding Christmas Carol from the brilliant Miss Laula (see what I did there?). Yes, one of our favourite ‘Undiscovered’ artists – the jaw-droppingly brilliant Carol Laula – has a great wee Christmas tune for all the family! Upbeat with festive lyrics, a choir and even some brass and bagpipe sections ‘Christmas Is Coming Home To Glasgow’ is not just for weegie’s to enjoy despite all the references to the city. “Whether it’s lights on Sauchiehall Street, whether it’s ice on George’s Square” Laula warms our hearts with her angelic voice throughout. Featuring Carol’s little helpers The Wellgreen it’s just a lovely, joyous wee number and a great video for you to enjoy as we well and truly gear up for Christmas!
Don’t forget these are just stocking fillers, the real treats can be found by checking out the rest of Anton & The Colts and Carol Laula’s music!
Merry Christmas readers!
