This massive track comes from the first all-dubstep entry to the Fabric series (Fabric.37), and has been deemed to symbolise a huge milestone for firstly, the label, but also for the genre itself.
Rusko is a dubstep DJ/producer who is closely affiliated with Caspa, a fellow DJ/producer who has become one of the most influential figures within the dubstep community, not only as an artist but as the founder of several influential labels (i.e., Storming Productions, Dub Police, Sub Soldiers). His older tracks really have gone down in history as some of the greatest dubstep created.
Rusko’s own ‘Cockney Thug’ is a melding of tinny ska keys, insistent mid-range bass throb, and a repeated cockney “fuck!” The in your face bassline became known in the dance community as “the wub”, and along with its cheeky brother, “the wobble”, it’s became one of the most familiar hallmarks of the nu-dubstep scene. With these new dance floor-crushing tools, dubstep was poised to take over the world. What makes this track is the sheer audacity of it. It’s harsh, it’s exciting and it still sounds great today nearly 10 years later. Regardless of the fact that dubstep is loosing its popularity slightly in today’s music market this track and album was revolutionary in 2007 and still is today.
