Whether Gorillaz and monkeys are interchangeable in a biological sense is well out of this author’s sphere of knowledge and interest. In stark contrast, however, was Gorillaz’ self-titled début album, released way back in 2001.
Although difficult to select any winner from the plethora of incredible alt hip-hop/britpop (and other assorted genre) songs, one that has definitely stuck is ‘Rock The House’. Incredible slow flow and jazzy trumpet-based funk make this an unforgettable classic, and one that a couple of the contributors here at The Music Brewery have chilled to in Spain on more than one occasion…
This was also the first CD I ever got and could explain a lot of the musical direction this writer leans towards!
As usual with Gorillaz, watch out for the trippy video.
